What ínformation do we get about Douglas and his work?

In the following text I want to point out the facts about Douglas and his work, given from page 39 until 43. The first important fact is, that Douglas is dealing with the indian population( p.39; l.21-23) and so he has to be able to speak Hindustani. His work is concerning all the local problems of the Indians and he is often at different places as example at his office, out in the courts or out on side (p. 39; l.23-24). On festive incidents or sometimes without an occasion, the local rich men come to visit Douglas and pay their respects(p.39; l.25-26). Douglas likes this meetings, because the rich men were like children and he rumbles all her tricks and hints (p.40; l.18-26).

American beauties

I choose a photoline of one artis, Karl Struss I think, who photographs different people in different situations.

In my opinion its the only one which shows some references to our topic and so to America, especially to New York. It shows people who can not be more different; fat, slim, little, big (…). I think this shows perfectly the cultural differences in America. Also he photographs at different squares, as example a fat woman on a beach, or a little man in front of a wall. Those backgrounds stresses the anomaly of each person. A fat person seems to be eminently fat in a swimming dress, and a little man is eminently little in front of some thing big.

All in all I like especially this sort of photographing, because Struss photographed in high of the portraited persons eyes.

Was Paul Auster able to create a real palace for his moon?

The novel “Moon Palace” by Paul Auster is the story of Marco Stanley Fogg`s development and searcg for identity. The protagonist, Marco, grew up at his uncles after his mothers  death. His uncle dies soon, leaving Marco behind, totally confused. Marco is not able to manage his life, he leaves school, does not earn money and so looses his appartment. Shortly bevor he becomes homeless, he meets his futural love by chance: Kitty Wu. She is the one who alarmes Marcos only friend Zimmer as Marco disappears.  They find him on last minute in the Central Park, nearly death. Pushed back into life, Marco searches a new job- and finds this through an old man in an wheelchair. His name is Thomas Effing. From this point on the story becomes more confused, more and more characters appear and Marco discovers piece by piece his origins and also his identity. And there is the basic theme of the story: the quest of one`s own identity, search for freedom and also for the origins. Some other criticians say ts a parallelbetween American history and Marcos development, but in my opinion it is only agood written life-story. Paul Auster tried to let us observe behind the walls of a persons head. And he get it. “Moon Palace”  is a real sensitive and lovely novel, which catches nearly ervery reader who wants to read something more difficult than “Biene Maja”. It seems that  the reader himself lives his own search for identity through the eyes of Marco. “Moon Palace”, according to the important role of the moon in pictures, restaurants and histories, is the very best titel could ever been choosen for this plot.

picture twilight

The picture “twilight” by R.A. Blakelock shows a landscape by twilight. In the middle of the picture is a lake with trees standing around it. One big tree catches the eye, standing left to the center. The sundawn mirrors in the water of the lake. The skys main colour is yellow/orange, the landscapes colour is more dark.

The picture switches a mood of peace and calmness. Also its very mystique and seems to be silent.

Pink “Dear Mr. President”

I think that Pinks “Dear Mr. President” can be connected to tha American Dream because she shows the negative sides of an unrealised American Dream. In her opinion the USA tries to bring freedom, peace and democracy ver the whole world, but instead they destroy and bring pain.

Also she critisieses that there is no or to little help for people with social problems. In germany the Government pays even a little part to support them, but in America is everyone responsible for his or her own luck and failures. So it is not that easy the American Dream promises to become rich and famous.

Another thing that is uncompatible with the American Dream is that the President is against homosexuality. The American Dream says that everyone is equal and free to do what he or she wants to. So it contradicts with the American Dream, when Mr. Bush tries to forbid homosexuality.
